To wrap up the year, Community Connect South Shoalhaven hosted a season of workshops as part of Better Together — an initiative of Community Connect South Shoalhaven, Milton Ulladulla Business Chamber, and Community Bank South Coast.
Across October and November, we ran two different workshops — Unlock the Power of Video with filmmaker Jamie Lepre, and Newsletters Basics with Grace McBride. Each was offered twice, giving more people the chance to jump in and learn new skills.
More than 25 local groups and businesses took part, including Milton Therapy and Learning Centre, Mollymook Cove, Cupitt’s, Safe Waters, U3A, Dunn Lewis Centre, ORRCA, Yumaro, Community Connect South Shoalhaven, Gwylo and Treading Lightly, just to name a few.
Feedback was fantastic! In our post-workshop survey, everyone who responded said they were either satisfied or very satisfied, with over 90% selecting “very satisfied” for both overall experience and how useful the content was for their group or business.
Participants told us they loved the practical, hands-on approach and the chance to learn directly from professionals. One attendee shared, “All of it! Clear, concise content, lots of knowledge sharing, and easy to jump in and do it.” Another said, “The presentation was organised, instructive and insightful. Grace was highly engaging and personable.” Others appreciated the “practical tips on how to make good quality videos and the importance of a short, strong message” and the opportunity to “learn from an industry expert.”
Jamie’s video sessions focused on capturing authentic stories — showing that you don’t need fancy gear to make great content. Grace’s workshops helped people feel more confident writing newsletters that connect with their community and inspire action.
A huge thank you to Community Bank South Coast for funding this initiative and making Better Together possible. It’s been wonderful seeing community groups and businesses come together, share ideas, and strengthen the connections that make the South Shoalhaven thrive.
