Acknowledging Elders who paved the way

In the Milton Ulladulla District, Wandarma AECG has been built on communityinclusion and mutual respect.

At its inception in the 1980s, Aunty Nellie Mooney, Jan Alam and Cheryle Hughes worked hard to engage schools, families and community partners to support the educational outcomes for First Nations children & their families in our community.

“Under the concrete and asphalt, this land always was and always will be Aboriginal Land.”

Aunty Nellie Mooney was born in Nowra and her language group is Tharawal and Dhurga. Aunty Nell was a founding member of the Wandarma Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG), the Ulladulla Local Aboriginal Land Council, the Aboriginal Homework Centre and the Aboriginal Medical Service in Nowra. She is an honourary Life Member of the AECG.

Since Aunty Nellie Mooney’s retirement, Wandarma Local AECG has been presided over by Aunty Lynn Stewart and current President Uncle John Field.
