The Cancer Support Foundation is a community volunteer-based charity, committed to fundraising and advocating for the enhancement of the provision of cancer related clinical and support services, including palliative care, to residents of the Southern Shoalhaven.
The COA was originally established in 2003 to raise money to build the Community Cancer Services Centre. It also contributed to the establishment of the Palliative Care unit at Milton Ulladulla Hospital along with supplying equipment and support material to those facilities.
It became clear that the role of the COA was changing and we were being asked for broader support from clinicians for cancer patients that was probably not best supported by the existing constitution. We have moved away from an Appeal to solely raise monies to build infrastructure, to more of a cancer support service to the local community.
The constitution and objectives have been amended accordingly, along with a change of name that will allow the Cancer Support Foundation of Milton Ulladulla Inc. not only to continue the existing support provided but to provide individual local cancer/palliative care patients, medical, pharmaceutical, and other support as deemed appropriate and recommended by the Milton Cancer Centre Social worker or the Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner.
We will work closely with the respective clinicians at the Milton Community Cancer Centre, Palliative care and Hospital management to identify opportunities where the Cancer Support Foundation of Milton Ulladulla Inc. can appropriately support those in our local community suffering from cancer.
